Our work
Through our knowledge, expertise, and national networks, CFA works with education and industry partners to design and implement innovative work-based learning experiences that support the success of students and teachers. We provide a framework that conveys work-based learning as a continuum and provides multiple opportunities for meaningful industry engagement that matches employer priorities and available resources. We build capacity across education partners to establish new industry connections, expand the definition of work-based learning, and provide many more experiences to students in middle school and high school.

Why it matters
Work-based learning enables students to experience practical, real-world workplace applications and grow their potential for career advancement and upward economic mobility. Work-based learning includes job shadows, internships, and apprenticeships. These activities help make learning relevant to students’ education, training, and career interests. Students are able to solve problems in real-world situations and engage with business and industry professionals to better understand the world of work. These activities are also highly valued by employers, who often seek young people equipped with this knowledge, skill, and experience.
CFA is working to increase access to work-based learning experiences to ensure that all students have meaningful opportunities to learn more about the world of work, build professional skills and networks, and narrow areas of interest.
